Today in the world, when everyone keeps talking about the protection of the environment for a better future, but undoubtedly today we will talk about a person who had risked his life to protect the environment. The country and the world know her for environmental protection and women empowerment, Chami Devi is still trying to protect forests and wildlife and increase the livelihood of the tribal people of Jharkhand.

Chami Devi was born in the year 1973 in Bagraisai village of Rajnagar block of Seraikela-Kharsawan district of Jharkhand. He started his struggle for banning the cutting of trees and planting trees around 1990. She started traveling to various villages to raise awareness about issues related to environmental protection and women empowerment.It was a very difficult task for a Yuba tribal girl to travel from one place to another without resources. He made many friends along the way in his struggle. They formed thousands of women self-help groups. Chami Devi launched a campaign against wood mafia and Naxal activities to stop illegal deforestation.She organized women from more than 40 villages to plant eucalyptus, sal, neem, shisham, acacia trees and other plants to replenish the forests of Jharkhand and to make barren lands green and fertile. Work done. With the help of thousands of women self-help groups, he has planted more than 30 lakh saplings. His team members were successful in stopping illegal felling of forests. Along with these works, his colleagues have also created watersheds in areas with low rainfall and less irrigation facilities to increase the income of farmers. Chami Devi has provided self-employment to 28,000 women by forming about 2,800 women self-help groups.

Chami Devi was awarded the 'Nari Shakti Puraskar' by the then President of India, Shri Ramnath Kovind in March 2020. Even before this, he had received 'Indira Priyadarshini Vrikshamitra Award' in 1996.The story of Chami Devi Murmu is a lesson for all of us that no work is impossible if we are determined with our heart and mind. One thing we can learn from Chami Devi Murmu is that instead of blaming others we should take responsibility and accountability to change our future and live a happy life.
