The first white tiger was found in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh, India. His name was Mohan. Mohan was the first white tiger to be captured alive.

This incident is of 27 May 1951, when Maharaja Martand Singh along with his royal guest Raja Ajit Singh of Jodhpur reached Pankhora village of Siddhi to hunt the tigress, their arrival created a stir in the forest and three tiger cubs ran away quickly. Went, but a wonderful white colored cub hid in the cave itself. Maharaja Martand Singh did not kill him but captured him alive and brought him with him to Govindgarh fort and named him 'Mohan'. Everyone in the palace respected Mohan like a king. The servants who took care of Mohan also loved Mohan very much. Everyone in the palace used respectful language like 'Mohan Singh come here'.

Often in the afternoon, Maharaja Martand Singh used to go to Mohan with a football to play football. There were many occasions when the Maharaja stroked Mohan's head.

Tiger cubs born from the fort of Maharaja Martand Singh were sent to Britain, America and Japan. In their lifetime of 19 years, Mohan and tigress Radha had a total of 34 cubs, out of which 21 were white in colour. It is said that all the white tigers in the world are descendants of Mohan.

For the first time in the country, the white tiger Mohan was insured. The Indian Postal Department and the Department of Telecommunications issued a postage stamp in the year 1987, on which Mohan's photo was placed.

Mohan died on 10 December 1969. On the day of Mohan's death, state mourning was declared in Rewa and Mohan was also given a gun salute.
